John T. "Jack" McVay, 90, of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. He was born September 9, 1932, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late John and Mary Ellen (Flavin) McVay. Jack served his country in the United States during the Korean War, where he was a paratrooper instructor. He was a graduate of Duquesne University with a degree in Accounting and Finance. Jack worked as an accountant first for A&P Grocery and later for Giant Eagle. He was a member of Guardian Angels Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Campus in Natrona Heights, the former Boosters Club of the church, the Irish Centre of Pittsburgh and was a volunteer for the Highlands Area Meals-on-Wheels. Jack was an avid runner, a Pittsburgh sports fan, and enjoyed playing cards and wood carving. Jack is survived by his sons, Daniel J. (Suzanne) McVay, of Honey Brook, Thomas J. (Delia) McVay, of Winter Park, Florida and Michael A. (Barb) McVay, of Treasure Island, Florida, grandchildren, Celia (Zach) Amkraut, Sammy McVay, Breanne McVay and Taylor McVay, great grandchildren, Harper Rae and Jaxon Cade and by his sister-in-law, Connie McVay, of Glenshaw. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Jean A. (Gaydos) McVay on September 15, 2015, brother, Gerald McVay and by his sisters, Peggy Beam and Mary Ellen Buckley.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a parting prayer service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Campus. Entombment will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jack may be made to the American Cancer Society 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15205.
