Mary Margaret 'Marti' (Kunz) Sundo, 85, of Natrona Heights, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at her home. She was born January 26, 1931, in Etna, a daughter of the late George C. and Margaret L. Mihm Kunz. Marti attended grade school and high school at St. Mary's in Sharpsburg. On June 19, 1954 she married Regis A. Sundo in St. Mary's Church in Sharpsburg. Mom always said that Rege was a fun loving guy and she was his balance. She received her RN from St. Francis School of Nursing. Marti's nursing career span from 1953-1985. She worked at St. Francis and Betern's Hospital in Aspinwall and retired from Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights. After retiring she used her nursing skills for caring for family members and those she loved. Marti was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania Nurses Association, Nurses Alumni Gold member at St. Francis Hospital and several Bridge Clubs and a Bridge Flight. She also did volunteer work for her church, Meals-on-Wheels as well as the Ladies Auxiliary at Allegheny Valley Hospital. Marti is survived by her children, Douglas A. (Debora) Sundo, David D. Sundo, Daniel G. (Jeannie) Sundo, Daralynne M. Sundo and Duane F. (Jana Belle) Sundo; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew & Marlena Sundo, Danielle Reynolds and Jaia Sundo; great grandchildren, Madison, Luca and Kennedy Sundo, Dominic Reynolds and Jack Sundo; her siblings, Raymond A. (Gloria) Kunz, Anita C. (Robert) Blythe and Kenneth (Katherine) Kunz and by many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Regis A. Sundo on June 29, 2006; grandson, Kyle Sundo on April 24, 2016, daughter-in-law, Colleen (Holland) Sundo and siblings, Coletta Brucker, George Kunz Jr., and Richard Kunz.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 6-8 PM and on Thursday from 2-4, 6-8 PM in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a blessing service will be held on Friday at 10 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM in Most Blessed Sacrament Church with her cousin the Rev. Thomas Kunz as celebrant. Entombment will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery Mausoleum, Natrona Heights. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lost Dreams Awaking, 408 8th Street Rear, New Kensington, Pa. 15068 or to the Colleen Sundo Fund, UPMC Mercy Development Office (Donation goes towards Scholarships for the Mercy Child Development Center), 1400 Locust Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219 (make check payable to UPMC Mercy).
