Michael W. Matisko

Michael W. Matisko, 91, of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Concordia of Fox Chapel with his family by his side. He was born June 20, 1932, in Springdale to the late George and Anna (Surma) Matisko. Michael was a veteran of the Korean War while serving in the United States Army. He received his undergraduate and masters degree in mathematics from Duquesne University. Michael retired in 1994 from the Burrell School District where he taught calculus and had a positive impact on many of his students. He was a member of Guardian Angels Parish. Michael enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and playing cards . He was an avid Pittsburgh Sports fan. Michael (Pap) especially enjoyed spending time with his family and attended many of his grandkids events. Pap’s vacations to Ocean City were enjoyed by the entire family! He was very generous with his time and effort with others. He is survived by his children, Dr. Michael (Janice) Matisko Jr., of Indiana Township and Dr. Lisa (Dr. Leonard) Cyterski, of Pittsburgh, grandchildren, Kelsey (Sam) Bass, Morgan (Brian) McGuigan, Nathan Matisko, Dr. Nicole Cyterski, Mark Cyterski, Natalie Cyterski and Megan Cyterski and by his brother, Thomas Matisko, of Springdale. He is survived also by his sister-in-law Irene Witucki and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth E. "Mickey" (Miklos) Matisko and brothers, John and George Matisko and by his sisters, Ann Protz and Marge Maruskin.
