Donald A. Turowski, 77 , of Harrison Township, passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was the son of Alex and Elizabeth (Rychlik) Turowski and was born on March 26, 1947 in Natrona Heights.
Mr. Turowski was a lifelong resident of Natrona and Natrona Heights. He was a 1965 graduate of Har-Brack High School and a 1969 graduate of Clarion State College where he graduated with a degree in Education.
Mr. Turowski was a mathematics teacher in the Burrell School District for 36 years. While at Burrell, he served as the Department Chair in Mathematics and also as Technology Coordinator. He also served on the Strategic Planning Committee and coached both boys and girls basketball during his career.
He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Parish in Natrona where he served for many years on the Pastoral and Financial Councils. He was a past president of the pastoral council. He also used his computer skills to maintain the St. Joseph Parish website for many years.
In addition, he was a member of the Thomas P. Conroy Knights of Columbus Council #2602 in Natrona where he held various positions such as Advocate, Financial Secretary, Public Relations Director, webmaster of the council website and editor of the council newsletter.
He also served the Pennsylvania State Knights of Columbus Council as the editor of the Keystone Knight newsletter from 2004 to 2006 and the served the Pittsburgh Chapter Knights of Columbus as the editor of the Pittsburgh Knight from 2007 to 2024 In addition, he held the position of president of the PA State Knights of Columbus Golf Committee from 2017 to 2020.
Mr. Turowski was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers fan. His hobbies included golf and traveling with his wife and friends on vacations to the Jersey Shore and various casinos. He especially enjoyed his times with his four grandchildren watching them in their various sports and activities.
He enjoyed working with computers and new technology and enjoyed helping out friends with their computer problems when needed.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joann; a son, Donald Stephen (Amy) Turowski of Harrison City, PA; a daughter, Kimberly Ann (Taylor) Ley of Lower Burrell, PA, and his four grandchildren (Alexander Payne Turowski, Carson Michael Ley, Cassidy Ann Ley, and Nicholas Stephen Turowski); a brother, Lawrence E.(Karin) Turowski of Miamisburg, Ohio, and cousins, nieces, and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Allison Turowski.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Guardian Angels Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church with his pastor the Rev. John B. Lendvai as celebrant. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell. The Knights of Columbus will hold services in the funeral home on Friday at 5:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Don may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 2602, 28 Garfield Street, Natrona, Pa. 15065.
