Dorothy Alice Barch, 89, formerly of Natrona Heights,died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, Nov.17, 2017, at the McKinley Health Center, Brookville. She as born April 4, 1928, in Lyndora, the daughter of the late Dmitri and Anna Ulchik Shumek. She lived in the Natrona and Brackenridge area allher life. She graduated from Har-Brack High School in 1946. In high school and up to the birth of her first child, she worked as a lab assistant and phiebotomist in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. On July 7, 1948 she married Ernest Conrad Barch. Dorothy lived with her husband in Brackenridge, Grove City, Donora, Lower Burrell and Natrona Heights. In addition to being a housewife, Dorothy worked as a teacher's aide at Birdville School, and later as a medical assistant at Tarentum Family Practice for 23 years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed reading,cooking, working in her yard , and being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Natrona Heights. She is survived by Ernest Patrick (Connie), of Brookville, Daria Lynn O'Leary (Tim), of Fayette City, Timothy Conrad (Debbie), of Brookville, and Christopher Scott (Cindy), of Punxsutawney; nine grandchildren, Anna (todd), Alexa (Bernard), Allan (Ashley), Katie (Woody) Charlie, Sarah (Ron), Ben, Damian, and Klaudius; nine great-children, Ivan, Annabelle, Rudy, Matilda, Woody, Andy, Layla, Ronnie, and Demetry. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Ernie who passed away in 1998; siblings, John Shumek, Elizabeth Monti, and Florence Shumek.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights. Parting prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a Christian funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Natrona Heights, with the Rev. John Lendvai officiating. Private burial will be held in Mt. Airy Cemetery.
