Gerald A. "Jerry" Szymkowiak, 74, of Allegheny Township, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. He was born December 17, 1948, in Natrona a son of the late Chester and Stella (Ogrodoczyk) Szymkowiak. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. He retired in 2009 after 35 years of service from Curtis Wright, where he worked as a machinist. Jerry enjoyed traveling, going to camp, sport shooting, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his wife of 16 years, Darlene S. (Zellsman) Szymkowiak, sons, Eric (Dawn) Szymkowiak, of Lower Burrell and Brian Szymkowiak, of Gaffney, SC, stepson, Joseph Prusasky, of Hummelstown, grandchildren, Brooke (John) Livingston, Colton Johnson, Gunner, Mitchell & Sydney Szymkowiak, Brooke Ruth and Carter Prusasky, great grandchildren, McKenna and Morgan, brother, Steve (Bernadette) Szymkowiak, of Florida, step brother, Fred (Sandra) Myers, of Natrona Heights, brother-in-law, Tim (Debbie) Zellsman, of Buffalo Township and step brother-in-law, Edmund R. Nowikowski, of Natrona Heights. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his step mother, Betty A. (Baczynski) Szymkowiak and by his step sister, Sylvia Nowikowski.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4, 6-8 p.m in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-22-48688, where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
