Gerard Thimons of Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, at the age of 80, passed away comfortably, surrounded by his loved ones at home on February 10th, 2025.
Gerard was born in Natrona, PA, also at home, to Joseph and Theresa Thimons on June 28th, 1944. He went to school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Natrona and then graduated college from The College of Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico with a degree in Education. One year after college graduation, on a fun trip with a friend to San Francisco, he met the love of his life, Sharon Thimons, on a cable car. They married on December 21st, 1968 in San Francisco, California.
Gerard worked as a middle school history teacher at Highlands School District for many years. His love of education, children, and community, however, didn’t stop there. He coached baseball and tennis, was the Athletic Director at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, and he personally mentored and changed the lives of hundreds of kids in his community. At home, he was known as “dad” to countless friends and neighbors. What mattered most to Gerard always was his family. He was known to preach over and over “blood is thicker than water” and he was the kindest, most loving man we’ve known. He could be seen arguing politics and sports all over town with his brothers, and they were inseparable.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theresa Thimons, and his oldest brother and sister, Joseph and Sister MaryAnn Thimons. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Sharon Thimons, his 3 children, Jennifer (Seneca) Jackson, Jeffrey (Laura) Thimons, and David Thimons, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, all of which will tell “Pap Tink” stories and corny jokes for eternity. Gerard was the leader of his entire family, and his words and actions will forever resonate inside all of us. Gerard is also survived by his five brothers and four sisters.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Church. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church. This will be followed by burial at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery in West Tarentum, and a luncheon, where all are invited, at River Forest Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation c/o The Kaelyn Rose Fund. To send an online condolence please visit www.cicholski-zidekfh.com.
