Helen G. Gorney, 92, of Natrona Heights, beloved wife of the late Edward J. Gorney, peacefully passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023. Helen was born February 15, 1931 in Natrona, daughter of Casimer and Helen (Zawacki) Napierkoski. Helen graduated from St. Joseph High School in Natrona, and went on to Braddock School of Nursing; she worked at Citizens Hospital, Allegheny Valley Hospital, and as a private duty nurse. Helen was a lifelong, devout Roman Catholic and member of Guardian Angels Parish; there, she sang in the Resurrection Choir and spent countless Saturdays at 4pm Mass, extra early to say her rosary for all of us.
Helen was “Grammie” to her gaggle of grandchildren (and their friends) who swam in her pool every summer. She loved to cook, read, and spend time with family. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her sister in-law, Marcella Gorney, and her four siblings Casimer, Virginia, Esther, and Lucy. She is survived by her three daughters , Debbie (Ken) Meckey of Ebensburg; Shelly (Bill) Heasley of Natrona Heights, and Marcy (Tony) Tomaselli of Cresson; and a son, Edward E. (Jamie) Gorney of Natrona Heights, and ten grandchildren: Jacob (Sonya) Heasley, Jana (KJ Wetter) Heasley, Nathan Meckey, Alison (Justin) Schilling, Andrew (Melissa) Tomaselli, Luke (Stephanie) Tomaselli, Erica (Christopher) Diller, Alayna Tomaselli (Ryan Smerick), Seth Gorney, and Madison Gorney. Helen is further survived by her twelve great grandchildren and her loving church community and neighbors.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a parting prayer service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon in Most Blessed Sacrament Campus with her pastor the Rev. John B. Lendvai as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. The Ladies of Charity will hold services in the funeral home on Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Helen may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
