Mercedes K. (Hendricks) George, 83, of Lower Burrell, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015. She was born Nov. 25, 1931, in New Kensington, a daughter of the late William S. and Mildred Schaffer Hendricks. Mercedes was a 1949 graduate of Arnold High School. She worked for many years as a seamstress and tailor for Ben's Department Store in New Kensington. Mercedes was a member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church in Lower Burrell. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, was an amazing seamstress and tailor, but most important in her life was her faith and her family, especially the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Mercedes is survived by her two sons, Ken (Terese) George, of Everett, Wash., and Rick (Anna) George, of Crafton; six grandchildren, Mario Veltri, Sarah (Bob) Frye, Ricky George, Susie George, Daniel George and Nick George; and by her great-granddaughter, Aubree Frye. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Dale George, Dec. 25, 2003; her daughter, Victoria Lynn Veltri, Jan. 27, 2010; grandson, Greg Veltri, March 9, 2010; brothers, Donald, William and Daniel Hendricks; and sisters, Mildred Flick, Dolores Orell and Evelyn Spisak.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, until the time of a blessing service at 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:45 p.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell.
