Nellie I. (Thome) Virag

September 16, 1931 — January 25, 2017

Nellie Irene Virag, 85, of Natrona Heights, passed away after a lingering illness on Wednesday, January 25th in her home, surrounded by her family.
Born Sept 16, 1931, in Brackenridge she was the daughter of the late Jules and Gladys I. (Frederick) Thome. She has been a resident of this area all her life. Nellie graduated from St. Joseph High School and was married to Charles Virag for 67 years. Prior to her retiring in 1990 she worked at Gee Bee Department Store and Value City in Natrona Heights. Mrs. Virag was a faithful member of St. Joseph R.C. Parish, Natrona and was an active member of the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed watching all sports, especially those in which her children and grandchildren were involved. She also loved to sing and dance and she enjoyed her family gatherings. Nellie was an avid bingo player, and was a member of the former Slovak Hall Womens Duckpin Bowling League in Natrona.
Besides her husband, Charles Virag she is survived by her children; Charles Virag (Pamela) of Tarentum, David Virag (Karen) of Fawn Township, Barbara Claybrooks (Van) of Virginia, Karen Gladowski (Danny) of Natrona Heights, Marilyn Robbins (Bill) of Virginia, Jim Virag (Robin) of Saxonburg, Mary Joan Boda (George) of Brackenridge, Patty Allison (Glenn) of Natrona Heights, Mark Virag (Barbara) of Natrona Heights, Richard Virag (Denise) of Lower Burrell, Debbie Patton (Rodney) of Allegheny Township, Scott Virag (Jessica) of North Carolina; 22 Grand Children and 17 Great Grand Children. Also surviving is a brother, Richard Thome (Gloria) of Sarver.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and by a brother, Jules, in 1952.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 6-8 PM and on Sunday from 2-4, 6-8 PM in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a blessing service will be held on Monday at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM in St. Ladislaus Church with the Rev. Aaron Kriss as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Yatesboro.
