Richard J. Nitowski

September 20, 1930 — May 7, 2018

Richard J. Nitowski, 87, formerly of Natrona Heights passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at his home. He was born September 20, 1930, in Natrona to the late John and Anna Falenski Nitowski. Richard was a long time resident of Natrona Heights and recently moved to Concordia, Cabot. He was a Navy veteran, serving his country during the Korean War and his community with his service organizations. Richard received his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his Masters in Education from Westminster College. He served the school districts of Butler, Slippery Rock and Highlands as a teacher, principal and coach. Richard was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Natrona Heights, American Legion Post 48, Natrona, VFW Post 894, Natrona Heights, Knights of Columbus Council 2602, Natrona and the Tarentum Eagles. His hobbies were many including bowling, golf, sipping on a green one, and of course his beautiful art. Many of his 'masterpieces' hang in the local service clubs, area businesses and of course the walls of many friends and family. Richard adored his family, especially his grandchildren of which he was recently with for a college graduation. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, as the'life of the party' and his zest for life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Slyvia Glogowski Nitowski; four daughters, Richelle Nold, of Chantilly, Virginia, Maria (David) Stewart, of Centreville, Virginia, Jodi (Sam) Albert, of Saxonburg and Cris (Andreas) Hunn, of Leesburg, Vriginia; grandchildren, Bethany and Dillon Nold, Aaron (Danielle), Adam, Aiden and Addison Albert, Cameron, Ian and Lauren Stewart, and Claudia and Henner Hunn; sister, Connie Donofrio, of Akron, Ohio; and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Val Jean Simmons.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 6-8 pm and on Friday from 2-4, 6-8 pm in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a blessing service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 am in St. Ladislaus Church with his pastor the Rev. John B. Lendvai as celebrant. Burial with full military honor's will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. The Knights of Columbus will hold services in the funeral home on Friday at 6:00 pm.
