It is with great sadness that the family of Roy F. McLaughlin, 82, of Frazer Twp. announce his passing on Friday, November 4, 2022, after a brief illness surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Creighton, Pa on April 25, 1940 to the late Alfred and Ella Mae McCracken McLaughlin. Roy lived in the East Deer Frazer twp. area his entire life. He was a 1959 graduate of East Deer Frazer High School. He married Polly Sadesky McLaughlin in 1963. He served in the Navy reserves his senior year in high school. He Served in the Navy from 1959-1961. Roy was in the helicopter squadron on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp, stopping in Africa and docking at the Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked at the Valley News Dispatch before being hired by West Penn Power where he was a lead lineman for 35 years. He was a life long member of Janes United Methodist Church serving as a trustee and member of the PPR committee many times. Roy was a life member of East Deer Volunteer Fire Dept attaining the rank of Asst. Fire Chief and briefly Chief. In 1973 he received accommodations from the president of the National Safety Council for saving a life from a burning building. A life long member of Bull Creek Gun Club. Roy loved riding his motorcycle. Roy also obtained a private pilots license qualifying him to fly single engine aircraft. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Roy is survived by his wife Polly (Sadesky) McLaughlin, and two children Jeffrey (Linda) McLaughlin and Sharon (Todd) Fluman. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tyler Fluman, Cole Fluman, Amanda McLaughlin, David McLaughlin, Niece Amy Hester, Nephew Todd Heister. Besides his parents Roy was preceded in death by his sister Joyce Heister
Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Janes United Methodist Church (Everyone is asked to please meet at the church). Officiating will be the Rev. Dawn Lynn Check. Burial will follow in Walter Chapel Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Roy may be made to the Janes United Methodist Church, 947 Freeport Rd., Creighton, Pa. 15030.
