Walter M. Kovac, 88, of Natrona Heights, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020 in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia. He was born August 19, 1932, in Natrona a son of the late Matthew and Emilia (Knasko) Kovac. Walt was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army from February 1953-February 1955. He retired after 30 years of service from PPG in Creighton, where he worked as a supervisor. Walt was a member of the former St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brackenridge, the Slovak Hall, V.F.W. Post 894 in Natrona Heights and the American Legion Post 48 in Natrona. He enjoyed golfing, once scoring a hole in one, gardening was an avid reader and an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Walt is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann (Rev. Daniel) Wright, of Martinsburg, West Virginia; son, Larry Samay, of Johnstown; grandchildren, Kelley Lynn (Matthew) Kramer, Daniel (Stephanie) Wright, Isaac Samay, Renee Samay and Luke Samay; great-grandchildren, Ava, Joshua, Page, Owen and Emil Mulenga Samuel; brother, John Kovac, of Natrona Heights, sisters, Margaret Gaydac, of Lower Burrell, Millie Filo, of Natrona Heights and Wilma Gonzalez, of Natrona Heights and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche M. (Badzilowski) Kovac on June 3, 2020 and by his sister, Ethel Huet.
Services and burial for Walter will be private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., Natrona Heights 724-224-8688.
